Ladybird (15) - The best coming-of-age film in years sees a teenage Saoirse Ronan falling in love and battling her mum in suburban California. It’s the sharp script from writer/director Greta Gerwig which makes this a must; the perfect mix of the bitchy and the heartfelt.
The Shape of Water (15) - Filmmaker Guillermo de Toro beautifully blends 50s melodrama and ‘B’movie sci-fi for this lush, entirely unexpected drama. I mean, who’d have thought the tale of a mute woman falling in love with an undersea monster could have you reduced to tears?
