James King gives his thoughts on the best movies to watch this weekend on the big screen with James King's Top Movie Picks.
Our Kind of Traitor (15) - Another John Le Carré thriller gets the moody movie treatment, this time with Ewan McGregor and Naomie Harris as a couple trying to balance their own crumbling relationship with the fact they've accidentally befriended a Russian mafia bigwig on holiday. The locations are exotic, the atmosphere sultry and even if the plot doesn't entirely seem convincing, Stellan Skarsgård's fruity turn as Muscovite money man Dima more than makes up for it.
Everybody Wants Some! (15) - It's all brewskis and partying in this early-80s set college comedy, writer/director Richard Linklater's cheeky follow-up to the Oscar-winning Boyhood. The plot's as free-flowing as the haircuts; essentially just a bunch of baseball-loving dudes bonding in the days before term starts. But with a scorching soundtrack and bucket loads of Texan charisma, it's as charming as it is laidback.
Florence Foster Jenkins (PG) - From Stephen Frears, director of Philomena and The Queen, comes this true story of a Forties New York socialite dubbed 'The World's Worst Singer'. Meryl Streep is as effortless as you'd expect as Florence, the tone deaf eccentric who still dreams of singing opera, but it's Hugh Grant who steals the show, playing Florence's suave hubby St Clair with a career-best mix of sophistication and melancholy.
