James King gives his thoughts on the best movies to watch this weekend on the big screen with James King's Top Movie Picks.
The Revenant (15) - Leo DiCaprio grumbles his way to surefire Oscar glory as a bruised and battered hunter lost in the American wilderness, out for revenge. Birdman's Alejandro Iñárritu directs with intensity and flair but it's Tom Hardy as Leo's burly nemesis you'll really remember, the Londoner leaving no piece of scenery unchewed in his (successful) quest to steal the show.
Room (12A) - One of the true originals in this year's awards season sees Brie Larson as a young woman held captive for years in a tiny room, struggling to deal not just with her kidnapper but also the young son she's given birth to whilst there. It was a logistical nightmare to make but the result is a slam-dunk, as strangely uplifting as it is horrifically haunting.
Creed (15) - It's the return of Stallone's punch drunk Rocky Balboa that you've either been patiently waiting for... or dreading. Here's the good news: this is Rocky going back to its earthy roots, where the grey skies and rundown gyms of Philadelphia provide the backdrop for a gutsy story about fighting to prove your worth. Michael B Jordan stars alongside Sly, playing the son of Rocky's late best pal Apollo Creed, now keen to make his own mark in the ring.
